In her role as Policy Advisor, Yuri supports the supervisor to make sound decisions impacting the health and welfare of the residents of Monterey County.  Yuri’s areas of focus include Health and Human Services, Education, Economic & Workforce Development, Housing, and Regional Transportation. She serves as the Supervisor's primary liaison with the labor organizations representing County employees.

In the six years prior to joining the Supervisor's team, Yuri worked at United Way Monterey County, joining as Director of Community Impact, but was quickly promoted to Vice President, Community Investments. As a member of United Way’s senior leadership team, Yuri translated the organization’s strategic vision and goals into tactical plans; overseeing the deployment of resources, both human and financial, that lead to improved lives. She was the principal architect of United Way's Impact Monterey County initiative, a county-wide needs assessment, which resulted in the organization shifting its impact investments towards the areas of early childhood and housing.

Yuri’s family has lived in Monterey County for ~60 years. She was born on the island of Okinawa, Japan, where her father was stationed while serving in the U.S. Airforce. Yuri is a graduate of New York Unversity (MA '04) and the University of Southern California (BA '02). Her career has included programmatic and organizational leadership roles in nonprofit and government organizations in Monterey County, as well as in New York City and San Francisco. Yuri currently serves as Policy Advisor to Monterey County Supervisor Mary Adams.  Before that, she was a member of the senior leadership team at United Way Monterey County.  Yuri is a wife and mother of two young children (and one old dog).

While attending NYU, Yuri completed a graduate fellowship with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of New York. The fellowship included a concentration of projects that honed her policy development and grant writing skills. Concurrently, she was a graduate intern at City as School High School.  At CAS, she partnered with the administration and teachers to advance the mission of the "last chance" school in which students earned academic credit through individually tailored externships with industry professionals.

In addition to majoring in Political Science, where she developed understanding and skill in affecting policy from a servant leadership perspective, Yuri minored in Education while attending USC. It was here that Yuri first developed the belief that school, and work must be thoughtfully intersected and an understanding that good policy is critical to that happening. While at USC, Yuri also spent a summer studying at Cambridge University in England, expanding her understanding of what it means to live in a global society.
